Cub Scout Sign Up Resources

The start of the school year means the start of the scout year, which brings sign up night, info tables, and new families to your unit. While it is always exciting to welcome new cubs as they begin their scouting journey, it can be overwhelming for your new parents and your Pack leaders. Over the years, I have put together a few resources to help make the onboarding of new cubs just a little bit easier for everyone.

Free Cub Scout Resources

All of these are available for you to use to support your unit and families. You can download the files here to print and fill in or you can find them on Canva where you can make a copy to edit for use at your unit. To use the files on Canva, you will log into your account and make a copy of the file. This will save a copy to your account. You will then be able to edit the copy. Please do not request access to edit the original. I do not allow edits on the original, source file to ensure the formatting remains intact for other who may wish to use it.

Pack Info Sheet for Sign Up Nights

No matter how many leaders make it to sign up nights, we never have enough to personally chat with every single family that attends. To make sure every family still has access to our meeting info, dues info, and dates for major events, we always bring plenty of printed copies of our Pack Info Sheet.

We make sure they have contact info for multiple leaders, clearly explain dues, provide a link to sign up, and list dates for all campouts and major events, like Trunk or Treat, Winter Holiday Party, and Pinewood Derby. You can customize this to suit your unit and highlight what makes it fun to be a cub at your Pack.

Back to Pack Packets and Glossary

We make this resource available to our new and returning parents. It highlights volunteer needs, major events, info on popcorn, and more. The glossary in the back is provided to help new families with some of the lingo scouters often forget make no sense to people outside of scouting.

In this version, I left in some events and info from our unit’s 2024-2025 year to give some examples. You will want to make sure you personalize this document to your unit. This packet also includes a page for parents to fill in. I usually pre-fill it with the Pack info, but I let them copy down their den-specific info at the Parent Orientation or when they chat with their den leader in person.

Cub Scout Parent Orientation

We always offer at least one Parent Orientation and New Parent Welcome. We aim to hold it after our last major in-school sign up night but before the next Pack meeting. The goal is to give parents lots of information, but also plenty of time to ask questions. It can be really hard to give parents the time they need before and after pack meetings when your focus is on the kids, so this makes sure we have time set aside just for them!

I try to get at least 2 or 3 current parents or Pack committee members to attend. This give parents an opportunity to hear from multiple perspective and gives you a safety net in case you forget to mention something or are unsure about the answer to a question. Attendance is usually not as high as we’d like, but for the parents that come, they always say they are glad they did and they tend to have far fewer questions throughout the year.

Did you find this useful? Leave a note!

I love hearing from units that use my resources and worksheets. I was really excited last year to hear they reached all the way to Alaska and Japan! If you used these files to support your unit, I’d appreciate it if you left a comment including where your unit is located.

Thoughts or comments? Feedback is a gift! I’m happy to hear what you think or what requests you might have for additional resources. Let me know in the comments.
