Memorial Day Weekend Reminder

American Flag

Memorial Day is coming up, so here is a little reminder: Please be considerate when wishing people a “Happy Memorial Day.”

Yes, it is a weekend full of celebrations and you mean well, but for too many military families it is a day of remembrance for a loved one they lost in service to their country. While I have no doubt every single service member would whole-heartedly support your pregame for Summer vacation, please be sensitive to those who may be grieving.

I dug into this more a few years go in my post titled In Defense of Memorial Day Well-Wishers. If you don’t understand why saying “Happy Memorial Day” can rub people the wrong way, I encourage you to give it a read.

And if you want to be gut-punched right in the feels, watch the setting of the Missing Man Table.
