Why Young Living?

If you don’t know what is in your essential oils, where they come from, or how they are distilled, you don’t know what you’re putting in your body.

First and foremost, you want to know that you are using pure essential oils, not something blended or made entirely from synthetics. But there's so much more to it than that.

Seed to Seal®: What Does It Mean?

All seeds are not created equal, which means all plants aren’t the same. Young Living uses heirloom plants and seeds that are organic and not genetically modified (non-GMO). What does it mean to be an heirloom seed? It is non-hybrid, non-GMO, non-treated, non-patented, open-pollinated (meaning natural pollination from insects and wind) and has generally existed for at least 50 years.

Next is how those seeds are grown. To nourish the soil, Young Living uses mulch left over from distilling plants instead of utilizing chemical fertilizers. Instead of using toxic sprays, Young Living farms use essential oils, such as peppermint, for weed and pest control. This is closely monitored on all Young Living and partner farms.

Each plant has beneficial compounds that should be harvested at a particular time of day, distilled at the right temperature for the right length of time to make sure each and every constituent of the plant is preserved. For this reason, every species has a very particular distillation process designed specifically to harness the full potential of that specific plant. For example, the essential oils in Ylang Ylang flowers begin to leave the flower and return to the branches after about 10:00am. The flowers are also incredibly delicate. So, Young Living harvests Ylang Ylang by hand picking the flowers between sunrise and 10:00am.

Young Living guarantees consistent quality through rigorous tests performed in their own labs and through third party labs. These tests are to ensure Young Living Essential Oils are never diluted, cut, or adulterated. Because of this, Young Living Essential Oils exceed international standards (which, as we’ve already mentioned, doesn’t mean as much as it should) and maintain optimal levels of constituents and properties unique to each oil. If a batch of oils does not meet these standards, it is discarded.

Oils are then sealed in Young Living’s state-of-the-art facility where each bottle is carefully inspected before being shipped around the world. Each oil contains an individual tracking number so Young Living can trace each individual bottle of essential oil back to its source.
